Archery Equipments
The rich practice of using bow and arrows to shoot is termed as archery. Historically archery was used for hunting and in warfare. But slowly it became a precision sport. A person practicing archery is commonly termed as an archer, while an expert in archery is known as toxophilite.
This long tradition of archery has hence taught a number of craftsmen ands also engineers to design new and modern archery equipments to help improve each and every possible aspect of the game. The range of archery equipments varies widely based on the quality, materials and most significantly the prices. The important equipments required in archery include of the arrows and bows with the bowstring. Also certain archery accessories like stabilizers, arrow rest, quiver, gloves and armguards are used today. These equipments have been discussed in brief to help people know more about them.
Arrows: It is significant for a new user to know that before selecting a bow, it is rather more important to select the arrows. Today, there are many types of arrows available to gratify to all the budgets and also all levels of expertise. A normal arrow consists of a shaft with an arrowhead that is attached to the front while at the other end it consists of fletchings and a nock. The shafts are by and large made of solid wood, fiberglass, aluminum alloys or with carbon fibers.
A lighter arrow will naturally travel at a faster speed and also is capable of greater consistency for the longer distances. Thus as the carbon arrows have a smaller diameter and are much lighter in weight, they are widely used and are more expensive than the others. Once the type of arrow has been decided, it is important to decide the length of the arrows. This is important as, if too much of the arrow is protruding in the front region it may result in poor accuracy due to the additional weight. Also it is very vital from a safety standpoint as, one would not want the arrow to be pulled till it drops from the arrow rest. Hence arrows with a proper length are equally important.
Bows: The type of bow to be chosen basically depends upon the activity for which it is being selected. Today, the selection of bows can be done easily from a variety of bows that are available. These types include a traditional bow, a longbow, a recurve bow or a self bow. The traditional bows are meant for traditional events while the recurve bows are mainly used in the contests.
Bowstring: Modern materials like the Dacron and Linen offering high strength for the weight are mostly used in the new modern bows.
Accessories: The stabilizers help improve one’s aim by minimizing the turbulence and improving balance. The arrow rest helps improve one’s arrow flight and thus overcome minor inconsistencies. A quiver provides the archer with a place to keep the arrows prior to drawing while the gloves and the armguards protect the archer’s hands and arms from the pressure while drawing the string.
Thus knowing these small but important aspects related to archery helps people to select the best equipments for themselves.
